2nd Test Match Report

The 2nd Test was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to a "waterlogged pitch" meaning that the five test series has begun with two draws, a considerable improvement upon recent years. However, given that the otherwise idle touring party played 9 holes of golf in splendid sunshine less than a quarter of a mile from the "waterlogged pitch" concerned, questions have been asked as to the veracity of the abandonment. Seamo can now reveal a mid-evening text message from Chulmleigh to the effect that "it was a good job we called it off, it has been pissing it down here all afternoon", which must have been so localised as to completely avoid the golf course on the other side of the village. Ummm...

On a more cheerful note, the morning bowls saw victories for Kingdon & Newby Snr over Roberts & Austin (24-4), Chilton & Baker over Ashford & Seaman Jnr (22-12), Singh & Newby Jnr over Roy & Scoggins Jnr (22-20) and Moore & Scoggins Snr over Nourse and Seaman Snr (20-13).

In the afternoon golf, The Rest Of The World, captained by Dan VJ Singh beat Europe, led by Pete Newby, 4-2. Over the nine hole Ryder Cup-style tournament, all holes to be completed, there was a splendid 8-1 victory from Tom Seaman over Dan Newby which was not only matched but exceeded by James Baker who defeated Pete Seaman by 9 lucky holes to nil.
