The 2009 Tour Party would like to wish Mr Pete Newby Many Happy Returns for his 50th Birthday which is being celebrated today.Newbs has been an ever-present since tour began in 1763 and has played over 50 games, scoring over 400 runs, and also claiming 24 victims behind the stumps and no less than 5 wickets at a good return. Pete is also one of the unsung heroes of tour, always willing to lend a hand when something needs doing, not least when the bus needs driving back from Chittlehampton. For that alone, Newbs deserves a pint from every tourist on his birthday!
Pete is thus far the only tourist to like it so much that he moved his house and job to North Devon, a little bit extreme some would say and a bit of a blow when we start touring North Yorkshire. He is also responsible for introducing one young player to the tour party, with at least one more in the pipeline, such is his dedication to sustaining tour for years to come.
