The fifth and final test of the series was abandoned without a ball being bowled as heavy rain set in and continued all day over the Devon countryside. Abbey Old Boys would surely have been favourites to clinch the series at Chittlehampton but had to settle for a drawn series with one excellent win and one pretty poor defeat to show for their efforts.
The squad decided to make the trip to Chittlehampton even though the game was called off at 10am and so duly arrived at The Bell by 12:30 for lunch. Imagine the general surprise when it was revealed that the Bell no long closed at 3pm on a Sunday... the squad finally left around 7pm. Everyone ate well and drank well, feasting on large amounts of Otter Amber, St Austell Proper Job and Exmoor White Stallion, plus Thatchers Cider and some noxious substance called Black Rat. If nothing else, the Abbey tour is very good for local business!
There was little sporting to note apart from Seamo finally succeeding at something sports related, winning the skittles in a four-way contest with Nourse & Moore (Kent) and Seamo Jnr (Northamptonshire). Seamo Snr was, of course, on this occasion representing Devon.
Once again communications are about to be lost as the power goes off so further updates when the donkeys wake up and start to power up the generator...
