Mick Moore, Tour Legend, is 60 today!!!
It is hard to believe that Mick was fashionably late and missed the first couple of Abbey tours but he has been an ever-present on 11 tours since, hitting almost 300 runs and taking 44 wickets in his 34 games, including a tour best 5/10 at Westleigh in 2007. Considering most of that was achieved on a diet consisting of 90% beer sugars and 10% nicotine, you have to wonder what he might have achieved if he'd really gone for it!
Rarely seen at the end of the night with the belongings he'd set out with, Mick embodies the very ethos of tour - genial, convivial and usually well lubricated! First in the bar with the oppposition - sometimes forced to have a pint or two whilst waiting for them to show - Mick is welcomed back each year by opponents every much as by his own team. And of course he is always welcome in The Bell whose sales of merchandising go through the roof each July.
From all of us who have had the very great pleasure of touring with Mick over the last dozen years, may we wish you all the very best on your landmark birthday!
