Tour Match Report - 4th Test v Newton Tracey

Abbey Old Boys bounced back from the 3rd Test capitulation to level the series with a 12 run victory over Newton Tracey at The Lawn. Skipper Phil Roberts, whose relief at finding that none of the opposition were distinctively voiced female singer songwriters was evident, led shrewdly from the front and maintained his game plan despite a late Newton batting onslaught to secure victory for the side.

Batting first, Ron & Phil added 102 runs at almost a run a ball, Ronnie making an excellent half century before handing over to James to carry the team to a formidable total. After a cameo from Colin Warner, featuring a remarkable straight six, Dan Newby lasted one ball, exiting to a stern telling off from his father. How ironic then that Newby Senior should perish second ball on his 50th anniversary: "Happy Birthday!" said Dan upon his Dad's return.

After Hulse joined Baker to add runs late on a formidable total was posted and when Newton struggled to 68-5 after 18 overs the outcome seemed inevitable. However the Newton middle order survived and began to prosper, only to be curtailed when Phil Nourse was introduced into the attack with his canny off-spin. Once Graham Moore had been run out, falling to a training ground move consisting of a deliberate dropped catch by Ganja followed by a precision throw to the wicket by Dan-Dan, it only remained for Skip' to drop a catch to deny Noursey his 50th tour wicket before victory was assured. A lively crowd in cow corner celebrated wildly.

Just to clarify.....I've never spun the ball and certainly never from the off !!! If I was bowling that then it'd be a chinaman and that wasn't until the Sunday evening with the 3 course buffet etc. Buffet usually better describes my bowling !

  2. Well done for bouncing back especially to skipper Roberts who took the previous night's run out in good heart. I nearly didn't do it but then I remembered some creepy guy being rude to my bandana wearing sister and " fatty Freda " my chinese waitress cousin, so I thought what goes around, comes around !
    I rock !
